Day 1

 (Sat 22nd Apr)

From Sydney via the Main North Line to Quirindi

A mid morning departure with welcome aboard sparkling wine and morning tea, via the scenic northern line, crossing the Hawkesbury River, passing Brisbane Waters and then through the outskirts of the Central Coast and Newcastle to Maitland. Enjoy luncheon in the dining cars as we roll through the beautiful Hunter Valley, past Singleton, Muswellbrook, Aberdeen and Murrurundi. At Quirindi we transfer the short distance for our overnight stay for two nights. Dinner will be served at a restaurant in Quirindi, with accommodation for two nights in 3½ - 4 star motels with en suites. (Day 1 - MT/L/D)

Northern Tablelands scenery and Walcha Road Pub

After a hearty breakfast we board the Southern Aurora at Quirindi and head north through Werris Creek, Tamworth, Kootingal and Woolbrook to our luncheon destination of Walcha Road. Enjoy morning tea in the restaurant cars as we make the scenic rail journey north, traversing countryside distant from the road corridor. Some will have visited Walcha Road before – its only substantive building being the Walcha Road Pub. Locals come from miles to enjoy lunch in the ‘middle of nowhere’ where only a railway station exists. We’ll ‘park’ our train and enjoy lunch in this traditional country pub. In the afternoon we rejoin the Southern Aurora and retrace our steps to Quirindi. Enjoy your favourite drink or a glass of wine in the lounge cars in the evening light, or stand on the observation deck for some fresh country air. Dinner and overnight Quirindi.  (Day 2 - B/MT/L/D)

Day 2

(Sun 23rd Apr)

Day 3

(Mon 24th Apr)

Werris Creek’s Australian Railway Monument, Rail Journeys Museum and through Premer to Dubbo

Today we enjoy a simple breakfast served on the Werris Creek Platform, with the support of the local community. We have also arranged for the Rail Journeys Museum to be opened, which is located on the platform, and you can visit the Australian Railway Monument – dedicated to the role of railways and railway workers in developing Australia. We rejoin the Southern Aurora and head west through the Gap, Springridge, Premer, Binnaway and Merrygoen to Dubbo – parts of the NSW rail network that only see freight traffic. Enjoy a quality two course luncheon aboard in the restaurant cars, before a late afternoon arrival in Dubbo. We transfer to our quality motels for two nights’ accommodation. We enjoy a wine tasting and then dinner at a local winery, and then retire to our motel for the night. (Day 3 - B/L/D)

Day 4

(Tue 25th Apr)

Gilgandra Anzac Service and dinner at Dubbo Zoo
This morning we board the Southern Aurora and enjoy breakfast in the restaurant cars as we head north from Dubbo through Troy Junction, Eumungerie and Balladoran to Gilgandra. We join with the local community to mark Anzac Day – joining the march for those who wish and participating in the Remembrance Ceremony. There is time for a walk around the town centre, before we rejoin the Southern Aurora for luncheon in the restaurant cars as we make our return to Dubbo. With a late afternoon arrival we will return to the motel to allow you to freshen up, before heading out for dinner at the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo. Return to our motel accommodation for overnight Dubbo.(Day 4 - B/L/D)

Day 5

(Wed 26th Apr)

Dubbo to Sydney

Transfer to the Southern Aurora, and then enjoy breakfast as we head south west towards Orange and Sydney. Enjoy our daylight travel as we pass through the Central Western towns of Wellington, Orange and Bathurst – with luncheon served in the dining cars.

In the late afternoon we approach the imposing crossing of the Great Dividing Range – with the afternoon light on the sandstone rock faces of the viaducts of the Zig Zag Railway and the cliff faces of the Grose and Megalong Valleys, it will be an impressive sight. We’ll serve some light late afternoon refreshments as we cross the Blue Mountains to Sydney. Enjoy a
farewell sparkling wine with friends old and new as we arrive in Sydney early evening, at around 7.00pm. The end of our spectacular rail cruise to the north west and central west over the Anzac Weekend in 2017, aboard the Southern Aurora.
