Day 2
(Sat 23rd Apr)
Temora Aviation Museum and to Naradhan
Temora has a rich and noteworthy aviation history, having been home to the No. 10 Elementary Flying Training School (10 EFTS) set up by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in May 1941. No 10 EFTS was the largest and longest lived of the flying schools established under the Empire Air Training Scheme during World War Two (WWII). Throughout WWII more than 10,000 personnel were involved at the school with upwards of 2,400 pilots being trained. At its peak the unit contained a total of 97 de Havilland Tiger Moth aircraft. Four satellite airfields were set up around the Temora district to cope with the demand to train RAAF pilots. No 10 EFTS ceased operation on 12 March 1946 making it the last WWII flying school to close. Since then, Temora has continued its aviation heritage becoming the preferred airfield for a growing number of sport aviation activities including gliding, parachuting, aerobatics, ultra-light aircraft operations and model aircraft. The Museum was incorporated in late 1999, construction of the facilities then commenced and a Governing Committee made up of a group of experienced and diverse people was formed. The Museum contains displays, a theatrette, and a 1980 sq m. display hangar. We visit the Museum
this morning, then board the Southern Aurora for luncheon.
Enjoy luncheon in the dining cars as we journey along the grain only rail line to Naradhan – the railway line in south-western New South Wales branches from Ungarie on the Lake Cargelligo line and heads in a westerly direction, passing through Youngareen and Kikoira, to the small town of Naradhan. We enjoy a short time to explore the village, then reboard our train for the journey at sunset back to Naradhan. Enjoy ‘Dinner in the Diner’ and back to Temora for our overnight accommodation in motels. (Day 2 - B/L/D)

Day 3
(Sun 24th Apr)
Griffith Vineyards and ‘Narrandera dinner Aurora’
Enjoy breakfast in the dining cars of the Southern Aurora as we head west to Griffith. On arrival late morning we enjoy a visit to one of Griffith’s wineries and a winetasting and luncheon. Settle in to your motel for the next two nights, and then we reboard the Southern Aurora in the mid afternoon for a run across to Narrandera in the afternoon light. After a short stop in Narrandera to stretch your legs, we reboard the Southern Aurora and enjoy dinner in the restaurant cars as we head back to Griffith. Transfer to our motel for the first of our two nights in Griffith. (B/L/D)
Day 4
(Mon 25th Apr)
Coolamon and Junee
Transfer to Griffith Station and board the Southern Aurora and enjoy breakfast as the sun rises over the Riverina. We
arrive in Coolamon to join their Anzac Day March and Remembrance Service. Join in the Anzac Day March or watch as it processes to the Remembrance Service. Then we’ve invited the local Coolamon residents to join the Southern Aurora for luncheon as we head to Junee.
Enjoy your first course as we travel across to the Main Southern Line at Junee, where you can inspect the heritage precinct – the old Refreshment Room, now a café, and the fine historic buildings around the railway precinct. In Junee we’ll prepare our train for the return journey. Dessert and tea/coffee will be served on our return to Coolamon, where we farewell the local people. We return across through Leeton and to Griffith and enjoy a light dinner in town, before
overnight at our motel. (B/L/D)
